Hey there, soap crafters and DIY enthusiasts! Today, we're diving into the world of homemade soap with a twist – pork fat. Yes, you read that right!

We're going to show you how to turn that leftover pork fat into a luxurious bar of soap that'll leave your skin feeling silky smooth and smelling absolutely divine.

Why Pork Fat?

Pork fat, also known as lard, has been used for centuries in soap making for its creamy lather and skin-nourishing properties. Plus, it's a sustainable way to repurpose a byproduct of cooking, making it a win-win for both your skin and the environment.

Ingredients You'll Need:

  • 500 grams forest raised pork fat
  • 150 grams coconut oil
  • 150 grams olive oil
  • 70 grams lye (sodium hydroxide)
  • 160 grams water
  • Optional: essential oils for scent (lavender, peppermint, etc.)

Let's Get Started:

  1. Safety First: Before we dive in, make sure you're in a well-ventilated area and wearing protective gear like gloves and goggles. Handling lye requires caution, so take your time and stay safe.
  2. Mix the Lye Solution: Slowly mix the lye into the water, stirring until fully dissolved. Remember, the solution will heat up, so handle with care.
  3. Melt the Oils: In a large pot, melt the pork fat, coconut oil, and olive oil together over low heat. Once melted, allow the oils to cool to around 100°F (38°C).
  4. Combine the Ingredients: Carefully pour the lye solution into the pot of oils, stirring continuously. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens and reaches "trace," leaving a trail when you lift the spoon.
  5. Add Fragrance: If desired, add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to the mixture for a delightful scent.
  6. Mold and Cure: Pour the soap mixture into molds and let it sit for 24-48 hours to harden. Once hardened, remove from molds and let the soap cure for 4-6 weeks. This allows the lye to fully saponify, resulting in a milder, longer-lasting bar of soap.

And there you have it – your very own homemade soap using pork fat! Not only is it a fun and sustainable DIY project, but it also produces a luxurious bar of soap that your skin will thank you for.

So, snag your forest raised pork fat, gather your ingredients, and get ready to sizzle up some scent with this unique soap recipe. Happy crafting!

Stay tuned for more DIY adventures and creative concoctions. Until next time, happy soap making!
