Slow Cooker Whole Chicken: Effortless, Tender, and Delicious

You will need:

  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Redmond Real Sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 onion
  • 3-4 lb Edwards Family Farms whole chicken

Instructions:

  1. Combine dried spices in a small bowl.
  2. Loosely chop onion and place it in the bottom of slow cooker.
  3. Rub spice mixture over top of chicken. Rub underneath skin on the breast side. Make a slit in the skin on the legs and rub mixture under skin. You can even put the mixture inside the cavity of the chicken.
  4. Place chicken on top of onion in the slow cooker, breast side down.
  5. Cover and turn on slow cooker.
  6. You do not need to add any liquid to this recipe.
  7. Cook for 4-5 hours on high or 7 hours on low (for 3-4 pound chicken) or until the chicken is falling off the bone.

Don't forget to make your chicken broth from your left over carcass and bones. Put your carcass and bones in the freezer until you have collected enough to make broth with!

Serve with roasted potatoes, green beans or a fresh salad.
